SNAKE PIT

Dawn, one day I noticed
Two snakes in recoil, in deep slumber
I passed by the alley of dirt and stains
The rugged, hungry, innocent show of faces
Near the fast food store and a sidewalk lay
Nearly awake now to greet the sun
And the tiptoeing footsteps of pedestrians
The pangs of poverty shown
In the bigger jungle of cars and trykes
And from an irresponsible parents heavy rod
Preys for small rounded loose change
These two cahoots requests to watch
Where some people toss their wants for pity
Strikes the baneful conscience of society's eyes.

By mid-morning I saw smoke
A bigger, fat specie sneaks
Complete with dangling accessories
Reprimands a guy, then lashes out
The dent from a yellow parking hazard paint
A ticket handed for the mistake
To be redeemed later on with a crisp bill
Sliths the way of a violet paper
Moonlights on an early and a hot day like this
Preys on idiotic, inattentive drivers
Who make the foolish move of bumping
People dread the venom that strikes
Makes numb the reality of hope
And society's wanton need for change
